Backstory: Leo had always been an exceptionally violent child, constantly in trouble for bullying and beating the other children in his year, and while he’d never raised a hand to his mother, he’d laid his father flat at the age of 16.
So, it really shouldn’t have come as a surprise when his violent nature only grew once the military trained him in hand-to-hand combat, and more so when they put a gun in his hand. He’d never been afraid to get dirty or up close with his enemy. But it was when an angered out-burst had ended with three of his own team in the med-bay, Leo was given a dishonourable discharge.
Within weeks, Leo had dissolved into alcoholism, casual sex and cage fighting. He moved quickly up the ranks in the underground, earning his popularity and the money that came with it. He remembers a lot of things clearly about his arrest; the slippery feel of fresh blood on his knuckles, the way bone was crushed with each hit, the cut of metal harshly tightening around his wrists. He doesn’t remember why he beat a man to death, or how he was caught. Or the belting he received when he refused to be subdued.
A cut and dry case, the sentencing was 25 years, no chance of parole until 23 years. When he was offered an ultimatum, his choice was easy. Acting as the muscle within Grimm’s Oz division, Leo found his calling.
Brief notes: He joined the military at the age of 20, was discharged at 22 and joined Grimm at age 24.
Personality: Leo has always been a ‘hit first, ask questions later’ type, preferring to take the violent route to get what he wants. He suffers from an acute aversion to manners and has little respect for the feelings of others –though this stems from an inability to deal with and understand them, brought on by a lack of social interaction that didn’t involve his fist and someone else’s face growing up. While he gives off an air of calm and is relatively quiet, he has a short temper and is quick to fly off the handle, at which point the nearest object –or person- often becomes a victim. He isn’t one for apologising, sharing or any form of sentimentality, and is more likely to laugh in your face if you expect it.
Reason for joining? It was Grimm who found Leo, taking an interest in his violent nature and his willingness to act on it at the drop of a hat. Leo was more than willing to put it to use for the Oz Division when the alternative was jail time. If he bothered to work out how long he’d been there, he’d find he’s just passed the 14 year mark.
