"Is Starbucks really considered fancy coffee? I mean, if you get the right barista, it's fine. Maybe I've just had bad luck with them." He even manages not to pull a face at the mention of the bus stop; not out of judgement to Adam, but the idea of a bus stop in general.
Reaching out, Leo gently takes Adam's arm so he can look over the tattoo properly, turning his arm from one side to the other. "It's not as emo as I expected. And this prevents demon possession? Seems overly simple."
Adam ducks a grin. "Fancier than the Folgers I'd otherwise make before I go." Not laughing at that mostly unpulled face, he promises! He lets Leo take his arm. "Yeah. I'm not sure how it works, exactly, but I'm not going to argue." He looks at it with him, trying to see it for the first time, too.
"Well, now you'll have some of this. Beats Starbucks at least." Leo gives it one last look before letting go of his arm and sitting back once more. "Hey, whatever does the job, right?" He takes another drag off his cigarette and offers a smile.
He laughs! "That's true. Thank you." Adam shifts a little and rolls his sleeve back down. "Right. Oh-thank you." He says politely as he takes another cigarette. He peeks an eye up at Leo, wondering what the next question is going to be as he tries a little awkwardly--he's fairly new to this and he's never actually tried chainsmoking before--to light the new one off the butt of the old one.
sorry! I meant to tag yesterday but twd distracted me
Leo wants to ask all sorts of questions; demons are real and ghosts are real and angels are real and Leo's head is spinning with it all. But he's also wary of triggering Adam once more so he's going to give it time.
Instead he says; "Do you want to see the rest of the house?"
No worries! If you disappeared for a week, I might check & see if you're ok, but otherwise np XD
"Yeah. Yeah, sure." There's always time. Not everything has to be done at once. He stubs out his cigarette, finishes his taco, and gets to his feet, genuinely curious about the house.
Leo stands when Adam does and heads towards the stairs. There's plenty of rooms to show; guests rooms, a library, more bathrooms than one man really needs.
"Is there anything in particular you want to see? I can take you to the library or the games room?"
Adam's happy enough to follow along--although, yes, a bathroom might be a good idea sometime in the next hour or so--and he grins and shakes his head at Leo's question. "Whatever you want to show me...but boy are you going to be adorably disappointed when and if you come visit us.
He pauses. "Uh...not that my boyfriend's house is anything but nice. Because it is! I just...don't see it as anything on the scale you're used to."
"I'm sure it's very nice. If you're up for showing me, I'd like to see it. Presuming the boyfriend doesn't mind, of course." He leads the way straight to the library, passing by a handful of door on the way. Some are open, showing clean bathrooms and others a closed; those ones hide the guest rooms. "I don't live here all the time. Usually I live on a base with Travis and my team. I'm on a break at the moment, hence home."
"I'll check with him and get back to you," Adam replied, nodding. It's not always good to just assume he's going to be okay with things, yeah, although he's pretty sure he will. "Travis. That's your boyfriend, yeah?" He peers through all the open doors as they go by. "A base. That sounds...organized." He's grinning as they go.
"Of course." There's a few more stairs and Leo pushes open the door at the top of them, leading the way into the library. It's stocked full; long and large mahogany shelves stacked full with books and in the middle of it, there's two large arm chairs and a coffee table, that has a small cupboard in the bottom. "Yeah, that's him. And organised is a word for it."
"Oh, wow," Adam mutters to himself quietly as Leo leads them inside the room, his jaw dropping a little. He's never been a reader. Maybe he should start. ...Ben would never, ever leave this room, he knows that much. He'd find a way to sneak in food and then spend the rest of his live living in between the shelves, reading all these books. The sheer peace and quiet in here forcing his shoulders to relax, just a little. He almost misses what Leo says, there, he's so lost in thought. "Huh? Oh...good word or a bad word?" He laughs a little bit, trying to shake off some of the awe.
Leo leads them further into the room and drops down into one of the arm chairs, waving a hand around in invitation for Adam to look around at the library. "There's a little bit of everything, feel free to look around."
There's a foot stool in front tucked under his chair and he moves it so that he can throw his feet up onto it. "An accurate one. We're an organisation split into smaller units. Each unit has a different speciality and each member plays a different role. For example, I'm my team's muscle. We're Oz, as in the Wizard of. I'm the Cowardly Lion. Yes, I see the humour."
Edited (of course my paid account runs out the day before pay day! haha. thank god I can get my icons back tomorrow! :P) 2017-04-04 10:48 (UTC)
Adam takes him up on the offer, stuffing his hands in his pockets and wandering around. "It sounds awfully...whimsical, for what you said you do." There's a question in the words, even if it's not voiced, exactly. He crouches down so he can see the titles on a shelf better.
"Honestly, I have no idea what went through Grimm's head. But it works." Leo tracks Adam with his eyes until the younger man is out of view.
"You're welcome to borrow anything if it catches your fancy. There's plenty of classics. There's fiction, non-fiction, Y.A., Shakespeare, Tolkein, Hemingway, Jane Austin, C.S. Lewis. You name it, I probably have it. If not here, somewhere." A beat. "Probably not a lot that's helpful on ghosts though."
Wait, Grimm's an actual person?" For some reason this surprises him, although he doesn't know why. He shakes his head as he straightens up, stretching a little.
He studies another shelf, musing to himself. "I might take you up on that...I need to get back into reading." And then he stops and looks back at Leo, grinning. "You know that I don't actually hunt ghosts, right? I just...sorta got sucked into it all accidentally. Nah. I'm studying to be an EMT, actually."
"Well, it's more than that. There's a few of them and they all have code names. Grimm is the whole thing. I have no idea which one of them actually started it but ultimately they're on top. Like Grimms' Fairy tales. I don't know, maybe I'm explaining it badly."
"Good. More people should read. Learning is good for the soul." Leo snorts a laugh. "Doesn't mean who shouldn't know how." Now that he knew they were real, Leo would definitely be taking the time to add that knowledge and those skills to his repertoire. "An EMT, huh? What made you get into that?"
"I don't think you're explaining it badly, I'm just thinking it's uber-complicated and a little strange, and I don't have to know all the details, I guess." He grins, and shrugs a shoulder.
"Yeah, I guess...I'm really not much of a fighter...but I guess it's useful to know in case something else were to happen."
He sighs a little and runs his hand back through his hair. "That's another thing that's kind of complicated...see, my mom was a nurse, I started off in pre-med, when everything suddenly went down, I lost my mom...lost basically everything, couldn't afford college anymore, had gotten kicked out anyway while I was gone for not showing up to class...with an EMT-basic certificate, I can at least help people." And, just because he really does think of Leo as a friend, he adds (a little grudgingly, because talking about feelings is not his favorite pastime in the world) "and...feel a little closer to my mom, too."
Hello! I'm just about to head to bed but I figured I could get a tag in first!
"It can be a lot to take in. You're handling it a lot better than most would." Even with his freak out earlier, which Leo wouldn't fault him for at all.
"You should know basic self-defence. Be able to protect yourself. From people and monsters. I don't have much of a technique, but I can show you the basics for if you ever find yourself in a position to need them, if you'd like." Because honestly? Leo was fond of Adam and he dreaded the thought of something awful happening to him. Again.
Leo's quiet for a long moment. "I'm sorry. I can't even begin to imagine how it would feel it lose someone so important." He wasn't close with his own mum, not by a long shot, but the idea of losing her made something deep inside of him ache unpleasantly. "Would you go back? If you could?"
Adam sighs a little bit, with a half-smile. "I am...getting used to crazy things in the world, let's say that." He looks up, then. "And you'll have to coordinate that with Ben, who's been pushing for the exact same thing for months now...but...sure, sometime." Annnnnd, okay, so 'sure, sometime' is the exact same thing he's been telling Ben, but...he really means it this time?
He looks down, then. Honestly? He's been trying not to think about it, which he knows isn't healthy, but...he doesn't want to think about it. So he's been pushing himself and distracting himself and...is probably pushing himself a lot closer to the edge than he realizes or even shows. He rubs the back of his neck, leaving his hand there for a long time after he stops rubbing, and stares at the floor. "That's a hard question," he says eventually. "Nothing is totally good, or bad, and I have a lot of things now that I didn't have then, and a lot of...well, people that I had then but I don't have now...and...I don't know, exactly. I mean...that's a hard thing to put on somebody, isn't it? Could I look Ben in the eyes and tell him 'I'd rather have my mom back than you?' I know for a fact he'd understand, but...god damn, if I don't want to retch at the thought. Or tell my mom that I'd rather go meet my boyfriend than have her in my life? Hell no, I couldn't do that." Hell, sometimes it feels wrong to move without her there. They were that close. He...shrugs again, one shouldered, and looks off. Almost like he's searching the place for a window to look through. "I...once was promised. In exchange for doing something else. That they'd resurrect my mom alongside of me." Guilt and admission, there, although what he's guilty for, he couldn't say. "That...never happened, obviously. I did the thing. But it never happened."
"The crazy that you know seems a lot crazier than the crazy I know." Leo stands from his seat and moves to follow Adam further into the library. "All you have to do is come here and I can show you."
Leo leans against the bookshelf and listens to Adam as he speaks. He can't imagine any of the things the younger man has been through and the more Adam confesses, the more Leo feels an incredible anger directed at the people who have caused the man suffering. Only, there isn't anyone for Leo to hit in retaliation and anger won't solve anything. "I'm sorry Adam."
Adam grins at him a little funny. "Uh...show me how crazy life is? I don't think I wanna know the entirety of it."
He...looks down at Leo's apology. "You didn't do anything. Thanks. I'm...taking it one day at a time, is all." He gives a short, tight shrug, still looking away. Feelings, man. Not fun.
"Ha ha." Leo actually snorts a laugh. "I meant self-defence tactics."
Stepping closer, Leo drops a scarred hand onto Adam's shoulder and lowers his own head. "Doesn't mean I'm not sorry you had to go through all of that. One day at a time is all you can do. It's all anyone can ask."
Leo arches a brow. "It'll go fine. Fighting is what I do. It's what I've done for a very long time. I promise I can teach you."
If Leo knew what Adam's boundaries were, he'd consider offering a hug, but he isn't sure that it'd be okay. So he squeezes his shoulder and then steps away, turning towards the bookshelves. There's one particular set of shelves containing books that look extra worn out and he stops at those ones. "What kind of thing do you like to read?"

Sorry this took so long. I haven't even logged Leo in in ages!
Oh my god, how did five months go by.
